Local MP renews request for federal E&N railway funding
Randall Garrison is once again calling on the federal government to match the province’s contribution to revitalize the E&N railway.
The Esquimalt-Juan De Fuca representative was among three New Democrat MP’s holding a joint press conference today to plead for funding for their respective infrastructure projects.
“We’re hoping to put some pressure on it as we lead up to the budget to get a positive decision so that we can get passenger service rolling on the island again.”
In June, the province pledged to pay half of the $15-million dollar rejuvenation project on the condition the feds pay the other half.
Service was suspended on the historic rail line last year when the 125-year old tracks were found to be unsafe.
